Real Life Scenario: Kayaking Gone Wrong
As a parent, there's nothing scarier than being in a situation where you fear the safety of your children. This is why Luksea was born, to keep families connected while enjoying water sports.
THE FOLLOWING STORY IS A REAL EXAMPLE OF HOW QUICKLY THINGS CAN TURN, EVEN IF IT FEELS LIKE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. ANOTHER GOOD LESSON AND STORY WORTH SHARING.
Thinking back to a previous holiday, where our family decided to take a trip to Fiji. It was a great spot, the water was crystal clear and the children had this amazing inflatable waterslide positioned about 20 metres from the shoreline.
The water was flat and the weather conditions were amazing. One of my children decided that they wanted to try out the hotel kayaks. There was no one patrolling the water, so I asked my child to stay close to the shore just in case. However as the conditions were good, I wasn't too concerned and kept an eye on them from the shore.
Suddenly, the kayak took off! Once the shelter from the hotel was gone, the wind took hold of the Kayak and I watched my daughter start drifting out to sea. I had absolutely no experience in a kayak, however at this time I had no choice but to fool myself into being the next world kayaking champion.
Jumping into the water in another kayak, I reached my daughter in seconds, which was such a relief. I was then faced with the task of trying to paddle us both into shore against the wind. Now there were two people out adrift in the ocean.
Luckily a couple of hotel guests spotted us struggling out there and thankfully jumped into the other spare Kayaks and paddled us back to shore. Luksea will certainly be going with us on our next trip. Even though the locals are relaxed with the conditions, like we are at our own local beach, you just never know.
